Surface water is (. 3% of freshwater) and 87% of that is in lakes, 11% in swamps, and 2% in rivers. Largest accessibly freshwater reservoir that we can use. Vast majority is between grains of sand and rocks underground and below the water table. Groundwater (gw) and holes in earth materials- Gw storage controlled by porosity and permeability of materials beneath the surface. How well connected pore space is and how easily groundwater can flow. Infiltrates to water tables ,gw flows down water table to the collection of water or sinks into water table.
