Sexual identity, or how someone describes their sense of self a sexual being. Sexuality: a combination of emotional and physical pleasure a person experiences through their personal preferences. If people are so varied in their sexual practices, how is it that the division between homo and hetero has, in modern western society, come to take on such primary importance in defining individuals and dividing social groups. Heterosexuality is a constructed identity, a performance and an institution that is not necessarily linked to sexual acts, Essentialist- homosexuality itself has an essence that persists unchanged across cultural differences and historical time, Individual people are one sexuality or another-their sexuality is an essential aspect of themselves. Constructivists: sexual desires, practices, identities and communities vary across history and culture and, in fact, are shaped by history and culture.
