David only ruled in the southern half for the first seven years of his reign. Wanted to build regional centers, a grand national temple, and a greater palace. Solomon instituted a system of corvee la(cid:271)or, si(cid:374)(cid:272)e he did(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e e(cid:374)ough sla(cid:448)es. The northern tribes were unhappy about the heavy taxes levied on them by solomon. Northern tribes wanted to renegotiate with rehoboam for lower taxes.
