Congruent: color of ink and color name the same. Non-congruent: color of ink and color name is different. Re-visiting the stroop test - is it harder to have less interference when congruent or incongruent. Larger reaction time difference between congruent and incongruent. When the design was blocked (where one cluster of the stimuli were congruent and the next cluster incongruent) there was a 215msec response time higher for incongruent vs congruent. When the design was intermixed, there was a 315 msec response time difference between incongruent vs congruent. It becomes easier for you when block is set. Executive function is the set of cognitive processes necessary to facilitate task goals when those goals conflict with habitual control. Stimulus control: determines the response (occurs for habitual responses) Reading is so habitual for many of us, it is under stimulus control. Develop and change across the lifespan of an individual. One factor: myelination of neurons in prefrontal cortex.
