Document Summary

Apcs: apcs display the antigen on the mhc. They then can exchange oxygen for co2 in the tissue capillaries and the blood with co2 is brought back to the heart by the veins to go back to the lungs and become oxygenated again. Draw the oxy-hemoglobin dissociation curve, and show how temperature, ph and co2 influence the position of the curve. Discuss the carbonate buffer system, and describe the role of carbonic anhydrase: balance of carbonic acid, bicarbonate, and co2 to maintain ph. Patients who have airway failure have more acidic ph because this exchange is not working properly. Carbonic anhydrase is the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of co2 and h2o to carbonic acid and then to bicarbonate. An excess of carbonic acid is what leads to more acidic ph: carbonic anhydrase, found in red blood cells, influences co2 transport in blood.
