Owers produce seeds in mature ovaries (fruits) Mosses lack vascular tissues for h20 & nutrient transport. Ferns have vascular tissues for water and nutrient transport & produces spores rather than seeds to reproduce. Gymnosperms produce naked seeds in cones (lack owers & fruits) Flowering plants produce seeds protected and dispersed by fruits. Plant biologists use the scienti c method to learn about plants. Observation: scientists make observations and compare them to what is known. Questions: from new observations a series of questions can be formulated. Hypotheses: a testable major question (hypothesis) is developed from the series of questions. Experiments: tests to determine if the predictions are supported by carefully controlled gathering of data. Hypothesis a testable question developed by a scientist based on a series of observations. Scienti c theory - an explanatory idea that is broad in scope and supported by the results from many experiments designed to test hypotheses.
