Personality may drive person to choose certain situations, when then in turn influence trait expressions (ex: extraverts attending parties) Strong positive correlation w/ extraverts and positive emotions. Iv: especially extraverted & introverted people told to act either extraverted or introverted during group project. Dv: self-reported positivity and positivity of other group members. Results: extraverts significantly happier acting extraverted than introverted, but even introverts reported more positivity being extraverted. Certain traits may evoke certain reactions (self-fulfilling prophecies) 4 steps to self-fulfilling prophecy: perceiver has expectations of how target will behave, perceiver behaves in a way that evokes expected target behavior, target behaves in a way that confirms perceiver"s expectations, perceiver sees predicted behavior, confirms belief. Rosenthal & jacobson (1968): kids take disguised iq test beginning of year, random 20% selected, teachers treat those 20% as stars , after retest those 20% performed better.
