Iv #1: recruit extraverts and introverts for study on effects of noise on learning . Play word game, guess the rule of word pairs, happens while random bursts of noise come through headphones. Assigned-same (assigned volume, from previous person of your same personality type) Assigned-other (assigned volume, but from previous person of opposite personality type) Dv: chosen volume, heart rate, skin conductance, learning task performance. Introverts chose 55 decibels, extraverts chose 72 decibels. Heart rates are similar in both when they can choose, introverts skyrocket when assigned extraverts" noise level, extraverts slow and get bored when assigned introverts". (same for skin conductance) Both groups did badly on learning task when assigned others" noise level. 2 systems in brain: behavioral activation system (responsive to reward, initiates approach behavior) & behavioral inhibition system (responsive to punishment, negativity, avoidance behavior) Reactive bas = impulsivity, reactive bis = anxiety.
