Modern social psychology: 5 new trends in modern social psychology: Social cognitive perspective - idea that we"ve learned through more advanced technology that social behavior has its origin in cognitive processes. Evolutionary perspective - influence of evolution on social behavior. Cultural perspective - opposite of evolutionary perspective, there are a lot of differences between people and their behavior, cultural aspects influence social behavior. Existential perspective - scary aspects of life influence social behavior (terror theory) Neuroscience perspective - neuropsychological aspects influence social behavior: 4 core assumptions: Behavior is a product of the person and the situation. Situation puts pressure on person, but each person reacts differently to the pressure. Dispositions - the way people behave to situations, individual differences. Behavior depends on a socially constructed reality. Shared set of assumptions about reality based on the society we live in. Understand social behavior using the scientific method. People don"t know what they think they know.
