I was 12 when i started acting with local amateur groups in and around the community i grew up in, in the. There was a professional theater company in the neighboring town of. Huddersfield performing weekly repertory, and yes, that means a different play every seven days. I persuaded my parents to let me go alone to see a production, but they made the condition that it had to be a saturday matinee. That was at the odd time of 4pm. When i came out of the theater around 7, i saw lines of people queuing to go in. I didn"t understand what they were going to see -- because i had already seen it. A rather naive reaction to be sure, but perhaps my apparent innocence was in fact a very complex response to what was going on. As an audience member i had participated in a sophisticated contract.
