As people from africa and europe come to the americas, they bring goods and allow a lot of trade between cultures, etc. Tobacco: europeans couldn"t get enough of it. Beans: very few beans in europe before the columbian exchange. Feed growing population: population and expansion from the plague causes a population boom and you have to be able to feed and support them effectively. Irish potato famine (1845-1852): when the potato crop is bad for several years, it changes ireland drastically for a few years. A problem with the crop causes a problem with their citizen count. Livestock: horses, cows, pigs, sheep- these animals work more effectively than buffalo and llamas.
