An action is morally required just because it produces the best overall results
Optimific: overall balance of good vs. evil
Utilitarianism
• Well being
• Do something if it bring about more wellbeing/better results
• Expected vs. actual results

o Moral flexibility

o Ability to justify conventional moral wisdom
• Moral community
o Humans obviously count

o If you can suffer, you are part of the moral community
o Thought: people in a coma are not suffering but are they part of the moral community?
• Thought: you could donate all of your money to charity right now to improve the overall
goodness in the world
