Human diversity and social work week 8 class notes. As a social worker or other helping profession worker, you get to work to validate other people"s" value. African american families have the lowest median annual income. Unemployment rates of blacks are twice that of whites and have been for the last 50 years. Traditional roles are expected in african american families, so most blacks feel like they will be rejected by their family if they do something like come out as homosexual. It is really hard to love one another when you do not understand that you have privilege (if you are white). What you do with your privilege is a part of your quest for growth. Landing on hate is not the best move when you are trying to move more towards being open-minded. You cannot forgive and hate at the same time. You should not determine your self-worth by external reviews. Do not just assume things about people.
