Document Summary

Now that we"ve discussed gene regulation at the level of transcription, we move on to post- transcriptional regulation. Our primary focus here is on stability of rna, which is modulated by sequences within the rna as well as by interactions with small noncoding rnas, e. g. sirna and mirna. Skim section 11. 7 and read thoroughly section 11. 8. Optional, there is an annotated slideshow available on the same page (called learn more about rna interference") which gives a good deal of detail on the processes involved in the animation. Learning objectives: explain the function of microrna and sirna in post-transcriptional regulation of mrna levels. Pre-class assignment: decide in your groups where you will sit for the rest of the semester, then be sure that you are all seated together by 11:13 am on mondays class. You may stay in the same seat if you like: complete los #1, #3, #4, #5, and #6 before class.
