Document Summary

Culture: a specialized lifestyle of a group of people that gets passed from one generation to the next through communication. Values, beliefs, the ways that they behave. Subculture: a more personally defined culture within a culture. The more micro you get, those become subcultures: ex: skateboarders (subculture) Intercultural communication: communication between people from different cultures. Communication: confront your stereotypes, example: the first step in aa is admitting that you have a problem . If you cannot acknowledge how you feel about a group of people, you can"t overcome it: there is a spectrum . We have control (to some extent) of how people treat us: educate yourself, read good sources of information. Your opinion is not as valid as someone who is educated on the matter. Educated opinions are always better than uneducated opinions: get to know people that are different than you. You are giving a gift, being around people that are different.
