Located in eastern africa, continue into red sea. They relate to continental drift because of plate tectonics. Broke off africa 165 million years ago, separated from indian plate, worlds 4th largest island, high level of endemism(rare species, not found anywhere else) 90% of its plants are found nowhere else. Africa is only place where nothings happening (no plates colliding) Less rainfall that other tropical locations, very little rainfall in the north. Wind blows from east to west and it pushed towards south america. Less land to farm on because of little rain. In the higher rainfall areas there are tropical forests. Savannah (grasslands with trees in it) is in southern africa and runs from side to side in the middle. Nile( runs along eastern africa), congo, niger( northwestern africa) All in eastern africa, because that"s where the rift valleys are. Blocks cultural diffusion from the arc of the worlds major population centers.
