NUR 300 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Peripheral Nervous System, Motor Coordination, Endocrine System
Document Summary
Very complex but interesting: prods the body into action during times of physiologic an psychologic distress. Identify and integrate adaptive processes needed to maintain current body functions. Orchestrate body function changes required for adaptation and survival. Integrate rapid responsiveness of cns with more gradual response of endocrine system. Parasympathetic: is complementary and counterbalancing, conserves body resources and maintains day to day body functions. Eye contact: gross and fine motor coordination, sensory function, reflexes. Musculoskeletal system is important: mental status exam, appearance, behavior, cognition. Mental status = total expression of a person"s emotional responses, mood, cognitive functioning, and personality. Cerebral function is assessed throughout the exam. Ask them to critically think: ask family members same exact questions, confabulation. When person is able to answer questions in sensible manner but is giving false information. Made up story that sounds right but is incorrect: grooming. Poor hygiene and lack of concern with appearance.
