Asking god for help, and the realization that no one is coming. Narrative arc with religion: started out hopeful, and it goes downhill from there. Scripture embedded in the poem: good god v. bad god. Reflection on individual mindset - some people believe in god, but some have given up hope. People in power decided that they were not important enough to be saved. They are old people, they are gonna die anyways . Natural disaster causing problems, but there are greater systemic issues. People being sacrificed, but also saying leave this earth, just let go. How do you memorialize people that have never been regarded highly. Resenting people for leaving them there, resenting their situation, regretting that they were never rescued, and that they didn"t see their families one last time. I just want the needle i just want the hand . People didn"t feel the need to leave - compounded disaster.
