FHS 213 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Social Environment, Lead Paint, Mass Media
Document Summary
Bronfenbrenner developed a model to categorize and recognize all the factors that affect our lives. This model is called the ecological model. Conceptualizes human development across 5 different systems. These systems affect us in different ways. Refers to the systems directly outside of the individual. Can be a group of a specific person, place or thing. The individual effects each surrounding system differently. They can be long term or short term in duration. The relationship between the individual and their microsystems is not a mesosystem. Behaviors, values and attitudes can be affected by mesosystems. Child acts out when they are in class with their siblings vs calm during a parent teacher conflict. Family is the microsystem that has the largest effect on our behavior. Family influences are not the only factor that matters. Behaviors and development are shaped by different microsystems. Peer groups have a huge effects on individuals. Peer rejection has been linked to deviant peer association.
