Effusive: magma: low silica, high viscosity, fluid, gasses escape easily no eruption, dark, dense, basalt, hawaii (give it back) Series of vents, oozed magma that created flat spots: basalt, created v pretty waterfalls. Wider than it is tall (think shield) Layers of magma over the surface, then explosion depositing ash. We have a volcano already, and lose a lot of material. Minerals: a fundamental element: specific crystalline structure, measured in hardness, resistance to scratching not crushing forces. Rocks: assemblage of different minerals or the same material: rocks made up of minerals, may consist of more than one type of mineral each with different properties. Sediment: unsolidated, fragmented material, not cohesive by itself. Lots of different sizes: percentage of different size determines classification. Depositional landforms: river delta or floodplain, moraines.
