Glacier: body of ice that flows in response to gravity. 2% of all water, 69% of all freshwater. Material moves due to mass of glacier. Ice flows downhill due to influence of gravity. Ice flows away from thickest part of pile. Flow velocity will vary due to where you are in glacier. Down slope with water= faster flow, higher up= slower movement. Zone of accumulation: where snowfall accumulates and adds. Equilibrium line (accumulates and removed amount of snow is same) Zone of ablation: removal of snow from glacier. Ice flows downward in zone of accumulation and upward in the zone of ablation.
