Group work, answering questions based on assigned videos on evolution and natural
selection:
• Who handled the idea of natural selection better? Darwin or Wallace and why?
• How did the hypothesis of natural selection change biology and paleontology? Give
examples
o Variation due to environment, before the idea was that god created each
animal the way it was
o Observational truth > religion
o Finches and beaks evolving to do specific jobs
o Presenting idea of extinction
• Compare and contrast the way selection shaped the evolution of the finches and the
evolution of the lizards differently? (Environment, conditions, important differences)
o Finches: based on weather and climate
o Lizards: location (altitude) in that environment
o compare: mating (song and dewlap)
o Finches was surviving (in terms of seed size they could eat)
o Lizards was more in terms of having to compete for resources
