Biological (hormonal) responses to out-group threat depending on implicit intergroup bias. High implicit bias least adaptive response when interviewed by a black interviewer. Oxytocin promotes human ethnocentricism: human ethnocentricism: the tendency to view one"s group as centrally important and superior to other groups creates intergroup biases that fuels prejudice, xenophobia, and intergroup violence. Promotes in-group favoritism, and as a side effect, out-group hate. Oxytocin strengthens the association between uniquely human emotion words and in- group targets.
