Themes: unconscious processes, trickery, & bias: we are easily fooled, and often, we are the ones fooling ourselves, we see the world not as it is, but as we are . Our minds often rely on cognitive biases shortcuts and habits we use to navigate the world. Delusions and biases: a lot of people are willing to believe things for which there is no evidence (faith healing, esp, possession by demons). A need to believe in the occurrence or existence of something. Post-9/11, more people chose to drive rather than y, even though driving results in more accidents. But certain threats, like climate change, are not taken as seriously as they should be: availability heuristic judgements based on associations that come to mind, rather than a comprehensive account of the facts. In a study, participants said detroit, because it is perceived as dangerous, but detroit is in michigan!
