A more producive deiniion accepts that culture is not uniquely human. Adaptaion- process by which organisms cope with environmental forces- see page 8 in book. Anthropology is both the most scieniic of the humaniies and the most humanisic of the sciences - Humaniies- study humanity based on analyical, criical and or speculaive methods. Rarely produce empirical data (empirical= data produced by experiment and observaion) Natural science- enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge from studies based on empirical data that conforms to principles of logic and math. The objecives of science: developing natural and raional explanaions and generalizaions for what we observe in the world around us built on gathering observable and measurable evidence that can be subject to speciic principles of reasoning. The nature of science: the nature of science is a descripion of science based on how it is praciced.
