Object permanence - objects continue to exist when they are occluded. Spatiotemporal continuity - objects move along coherent trajectories in space and time. Statics - object loads interact and can reach equilibrium. Kinetics: objects move in specific ways as a result of specific causes. Innate behaviors that assume properties of objects and surfaces. Inflexible innate behavior programs that make assumptions about how objects and surfaces behave. In many animals, the -- is designed to detect objects (not particles, fragments,rays, amorphous gasses, etc) When all three are present, frog attacks. Frogs eye is designed to detect small moving objects. If the object is not moving, it does not exist to the frog. Must be an object (not a surface, gas, sound, substance, or ray) Newly hatched chicks will perpetually fill in an image to recognized their imprinted object. If imprint on object, they will still follow partly occluded triangle. Flat, smooth surfaces reflect echolocation the same way water does.
