Tags that are put on top of dna that determine whether certain characteristics are turned on or off. Epigenetics puts tags on behavior or on genetics. If you are exposed to cig smoke, or diff anxious maladaptive environment, then this influence what"s placed on your genome, then influences your genetics and passes on to your offspring. Environmental impact are passed along with your genes. And this influences your offspring and how their epigenetics switch on and off as well in terms of what characteristics they get. Identical twins are a perfect ex for epigenetic influence. But doesn"t show that they mirror each other"s behavior exactly. But they have nonshared experiences that influence differences in epigenetics. We know only surface level of this concept, but it"s a hot topic. Type/traits; need/motive; biological approaches showed personality is real and important. Then came personality and assessment, mischel (1968) and the "person-situation debate" Can be organized in a systematic way.
