Document Summary
Three causality orientations: autonomous, controlled, and impersonal (these are individual differences, developmental outcomes). Like if you find yourself in a very controlling environment, you would develop controlled causality orientation. Your own needs are the initiator of behavior. You regulate behavior with experience of autonomy. External cues or demands are the initiator of behavior. You regulate behavior with experience of control. Interpret world around you as conveying your incompetence. All people have some amount of each of the three aforementioned orientations. People high on autonomous: higher levels of self-actualization, self-esteem, ego development. Greater willingness to support the autonomy of others. People high on controlled: higher levels of type a, coronary-prone behavior pattern. Go-getter, higher levels of public self-consciousness and treat themselves as an object. People high on impersonal: higher levels of self-derogation, beat themselves up, higher levels of depression and social anxiety, lower levels of ego development and self-esteem. These needs are essential for growth and wellness.
