PSB 3444 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Homeostasis, Executive Functions, Reinforcement
Document Summary
The noradrenaline system is a neurotransmitter system that originates in areas of the brain stem structure. These areas include the locus coeruleus, medulla, as well as behind the locus coeruleus. It helps regulate anxiety, arousal, working memory, cognitive control and more. It controls neurotransmitters in the central nervous syste(cid:373). This plays a role (cid:449)ith (cid:272)o(cid:374)trol of (cid:373)otor (cid:373)o(cid:448)e(cid:373)e(cid:374)t a(cid:374)d has (cid:271)ee(cid:374) li(cid:374)ked to parki(cid:374)so(cid:374) s disease. It is also linked with mood, sexual arousal, motor function and positive reinforcement. The histamine system is linked with learning, memory, arousal as well as feeding and energy homeostasis. This originates in the posterior hypothalamus in an area called the tuberomammillary nucleus.
