Document Summary

Announcements: no longer meeting march 6th for class. Last class: we have previously looked at bivariate relationships to get a general sense of whether an association between variables exists , this section will cover the concept of statistical significance or significance testing. Inferential statistics allow us to draw conclusions that extend beyond our sample data to the larger population: we use it to estimate whether an observed association between variables in our sample is generalizable to the larger population. The significance threshold: tests of significance produce probability values or p-values for short, p values at . 05 or under are generally considered statistically significant, p values at . 1 or under are generally considered highly statistically significant. P values and alpha level: spss: we can check for statistically significance by looking at our probability statistic. Feb. 22, 2018: when p . (see picture on phone)
