Unlike the t-test which compares two dimensions (groups) within a variable at a time (i. e. male and female), anova allows us to compare more than two dimensions of a variable. Anova compares the difference between groups and within groups and combines these comparisons to calculate the probability that the observed differences are merely a result of sampling error. Analyze > general linear model > univariate: dependent variable (scale variable), fixed factor (categorical, options: descriptive statistics and homogeneity tests. Below is how you"d read anova outputs. Its giving us the mean years of education for each group. March 29, 2018 these statistics are testing for equal amounts of variation within the groups. If this significance level is . 05 or less, anova is not an accurate test because the amounts of variation within the groups are significantly different potentially disrupting our results. Our levene sig. is > . 05 therefore we will continue our analysis.
