Document Summary

Agecat and chatt: age and church attendance do appear to be related among women and among men. It is often the case with social phenomena that people"s attitudes and behaviors are affected by more than 1 factor. The task that social scientists need to complete is figuring out what such factors are influencing the dependent variable, and how they work together to produce a result. Elaboration: a technique that helps us examine the relationship between two variables (the independent and dependent) while controlling a third variable. Replication: a term used to refer to situations in which a relationship between two variables persists when another (control) variable is held constant. Experiment using an appropriate measure of association, such as lambda and gamma, to test the strength and the direction of association. Linear regression: involves one independent variable and one dependent variable: can be a powerful tool for exploring multivariate relationships.
