Syrinx was a nymph who pan was attracted to. Pan pursued her and right before he got her, she hides in a bed of river wreaths. She then gets turned into those wreaths. Pan plucked the leaves and created a pan-pipe out of them. Christianity took over the roman empire and people were still worshipping the greek. Christian bishops saw people worshipping pan as the wild god. So the word paganism became as people believing in other religion. Image of pan became almost like resistance so it became the image of satan. Some people saw the country life as great and pastoral paintings started depicting a romanticized rural life.
