Small families, high life expectancy: africa still lagging behind (hiv epidemic, asia, arabic, and other countries are a lot more ahead in education and health than their economies (social progress>>economic progress) compared to usa. Increased emission of carbon dioxide (everyone did this) Emerging economy is giving off too much carbon dioxide. We can get out of poverty: technology, markets. Africa has improved the most (may not seem like a lot right now but from where they came from, they have improved the most) ex. Every activity we undertake has some environmental impact. But we may want to measure the environmental impact of different things. Because: we might wish to choose the one with the lowest impact, or we may want to understand how to produce the same thing with a lower impact. Measure environmental impact of doing different things. We might want to choose one with the least environmental impact.
