C env 110 lecture 22 climate change. As co2 increases in the ocean, the ph of the ocean decreases. In terms of food production, getting wetter is not bad. Increased temperature and precipitation impacts on nw rivers. More rainfall events, higher average flows, more flooding. Less snow pack due to higher temperatures: precipitation comes down as rain, lower summer flow in rivers, higher winter flow. In general they are not limited by the co2 in the atmosphere. Increased concentrations of: co2, nitrous oxide, methane. Is co2 the cause: there are other options. Temperature and acidification for marine capture fisheries. Creating dikes for times of high tide and prevent water from getting into cities. No question the earth is getting warmer, sea level is rising, and ocean is getting more acidic. This will have major impacts on life as we know it. Evidence that this is due to human release of co2.
