Proximity: geographic nearness is a powerful predictor of
friendship. Repeated exposure to novel stimuli increases their
attraction (mere exposure effect)
Physical Attractiveness: once proximity affords contact, the next
most important thing in attraction is physical appearance. BUT are
there any “rules” that predict attractiveness?
Symmetry: relates to genetic fitness
Average: face that is most familiar to you rather than exotic or
Childlike features: big forehead, fuller lips, big eyes,
Animals will look longer at pretty faces. Prefer beautiful humans
Similarity: similar views among individuals causes the bond of
attraction to strengthen.
Similarity breeds content!
