Overreactive neurotransmitter systems involved in emotional responses. Neurotic anxiety: occurs when unacceptable impulses threaten to overwhelm the ego;s defenses and explode into consciousness. Classically conditioned fear responses after a traumatic experience. Somatoform disorders: problem but have no known biological cause phsycial complaints or disabilities that suggest a medical.
