Bone - gives skeletal strength to have locomotion (or movement) Bone is a little bit genetic, and a little bit environment. Bird has to be able to withstand flying. Bone is about 5 to 7 times stronger than force associated with normal function. Bone has grown to strengthen and use force for what the animal needs o o. Cat has structure similar to the human - but has 40 more bones than human (in the tail: vertebrae in cat is more flexible - muscle in vertebrae - important for predation o. Cats have a vestigial clavicle/collarbone to get into smaller areas - allows a narrower shoulder. Increasing stride length is important when trying to capture prey, or escaping prey. Greater stride length = more ground covered. Cats = greater stride length because of vestigial clavicle: also a flexible spine to allow them to completely extend themselves o o o. Cat can have hind legs extend in front of front legs.
