42 views5 pages

Document Summary

Understand how viruses hack cells in order to replicate. Understand how mutation and selection affect anti-viral therapies. Non-living can"t replicate or live on their own. Need a host cell to reproduce and need some of the host cell"s components to reproduce. The genes they do have are centrally important for their own reproduction, The proteins are there to do something else, not to let viruses in. Viruses co-opt cell surface proteins as a way to enter the cell. Uses cells own components and takes advantage of this to replicate itself. Once inside, viruses rely on the normal cellular machinery to replicate and make proteins. Has a genome in the center and has a capsid to enclose it. Protein on the surface of the virus that uses to bind to the receptor of the cell. Has to make all of its own proteins. Cell has a big pool of amino acids.
