Media are the channels that we use to communicate. Media: things we construct to amplify our communication. Can also include our hands, voice, and eyes. Societal comm: aimed at a large mass audience. Giving meaning to the world around us. Communication is the process of sending and receiving information. Communication can happen even if you didn"t intend for it to. A statement about reality that seeks to explain or predict relationships. Theories are based on observation and evidence. Experiments: we try to control as many factors as possible to see if relationships predicted by a theory still stand. Some focus on a certain type of communication. Ends up with an audience (receiver) says what in which channel to whom with what effect. Comm is only effective when the message is correctly interpreted by the receiver. Noise: everything that can cause a disruption i the flow of communication.
