Document Summary

Cmn 10v language & communication assignment_reading original research. Sex differences in uses and perceptions of profanity. Jespersen"s thoughts are still considered in the research as opinions are one of the three sources of hypotheses on sex differences in language that are considered. Jespersen is saying that females speak in a simpler manner and tend to use softer language as opposed to men, who swear more, speak rougher, and more complicatedly. Choose two of those questions, and explain the rationale the authors present for each of them. When looking at this question, at nearly every aspect, it would seem that women have a much lower frequency of profanity use compared to men. From a stereotypical and even personal experience point of view women tend to use profanity only when feeling strong emotions or when taken by surprise. However, men seem to use profanity much more.
