CMN 121 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Jargon, Boston Accent, Literal And Figurative Language
Document Summary
How you approach an interaction is unique compared to others. People with more similar perspectives the more overlap they will share. Sum of mutual knowledge, beliefs, suppositions, etc. One person that has knowledge/experience of a thing and so does another person then you both have the potential to have common ground. Just two people having same knowledge does not automatically mean you will have common ground. Mutual or shared knowledge + realization of commonality= common ground. Very little common ground it is very hard to communicate to with another person. Higher the common ground between two people the higher the success of communication through language. We all know the routine of going to a restaurant, a 3yo does not. Students experience davis differently than a full grown, working adult. Two people being involved in or having a conversation together. Ex. went to same high school, grew up in same county, have same fav sports team, etc.
