Feminine mystique was a book released by betty friedan. Most talked about how women w/ money, education, etc were unhappy and talk about it with other women. She saw a serious problem in that talented women were not being utilized. Was legal to underpay women for the same job men did. Law/medical schools had quotas on how many they would accept. Davis vet program allowed only 5 women per class. Women examples: 2 scotus judges: sandra day o"conner: stanford law school grad. Top of her class, could not get a job so she had to volunteer and eventually moved up. Ruth ginsberg: columbia university top of class, had to work as paralegal. (iii) civil rights act of 1964. Fed law that made it illegal to discriminate on basis of race. A section was put in to include employment.
