Nematology
Central Nervous System Part 2!
• The ear has three parts:
1. the outer ear or auricle
2. middle ear
3. inner ear.
• The auricle is the visible part of the ear that collects sound waves and directs them into
the auditory canal.
• The pituitary gland secretes hormones.
• The brainstem helps transmit messages to organs from the brain.
• The tympanic membrane separates the outer ear from the middle ear.
• Sound waves cause it to vibrate.
• The three tiny bones of the middle ear are:
1. the hammer or malleus,
2. anvil or incas
3. stapes or stirrup
• These bones pick up the vibrations from the tympanic membrane and transmit them to
the inner ear.
• The semicircular canals are fluid filled bony loops that help maintain our body’s balance.
• The cochlea is a fluid filled snail shaped structure that houses the organ of Corti, the true
organ of hearing
