Document Summary

Luteal phase: follicular phase follicle grows and follicle secretes estrogen. Myometrium: outermost layer; tissue that surrounds the organ. Proliferation of endometrium: promoted by estrogen (from the ovarian follicle). Secretory phase: endometrium stops growing, secreting fuel called glycogen, mucus, promoted by progesterone and maintained by estrogen. Pregnan(cid:272)y doesn"t o(cid:272)(cid:272)ur c. l. starts to degenerate estrogen and progesterone levels begin to fall. Ovulation: occurring during about 14 days into the follicular cycle, caused by a dramatic increase in anterior pituitary hormone lh, lh-surge, normally estrogen does negative feedback on lh secretion, hypothalamus gnrh (+) ant. Pituitary lh and fsh (+) ovary estrogen female secondary characteristics, oogenesis, uterine cycle: estrogen negatively feedbacks to the ant. pit. The negative feedback is occurring about 0-13 days of follicular cycle. Lh surge is the signal that (cid:272)auses ovulation. Won"t get that signal if the estrogen levels are low. Have to be high enough to do the positive feedback.
