Patch size is not always the best predictor of patch quality. Some can get over barriers but some cannot. Prevent recolonization of suitable but unoccupied habitat. Eliminate the potential rescue effects from other populations. Gradual loss of species due to reduction in size, edge effects, and isolation. Set aside critical habitat and save species. One organism benefits at the cost of the other. Parasite is usually smaller than the resource. The tumor is the cells of another organism. Infection can result in disease but not always.
