The study of kin - the people we consider relatives. Diagram of people related to one another through reproductive sexual intercourse (blood) Focus on ego as an individual and his/her own family. Identities of people not conceptualized in terms of biological distance- free from biology and genealogy. Generation, social group, seniority, etc. play ,meaningful roles in public affairs. Actually means male belonging to previous generation in same social group . Actually means woman belonging to same generation in different social group; can be potential wife . Studying kinship and gender we become aware of eurocentrism. The tendency to practice and interpret non western cultures from a european/ western perspective. Western point of reference at the expense of other cultures. Fails to spot how european/western ideas about kinship and gender are culturally produced.
