Circulation the movement and re-appropriation of language and other cultural material across different social contexts: as stuff circulates through social space, it helps spread shared meanings but those meaning also change, little by little, over time. When words circulate, artists use it in their music: turnt up, twerk, shade, on fleek. Once a word or phrase becomes popular in media, it has already been circulating within and between subcultural speech communities: dat, doe, nah, lemme, imma. All common linguistic forms in african american english. Indexicality property of language and other cultural forms to point to other things and ideas, and in the process create relevant new contexts: meaningful associations between stuff. Platforms for circulation: youtube, tumblr, facebook, twitter. Some internet vocabulary: troll, spam, emoticon, subtweet. Used to exist as different meaning words. We"re orientated to text in new ways with younger generations.
