Some ideas about the origin of life: very difficult to answer - can"t go back to the beginnings, three possibilities, special creation - divine force, extraterrestrial origin - on another planet, spontaneous origin - evolved from inanimate matter. Extraterrestrial origin: panspermia hypothesis: meteors or cosmic dust carried life to earth, spores originating on other planet or distant star, cannot be rejected on basis of what is now known by science. In principle can never be disproven, thus akin to special creation. Natural selection: testable hypothesis, most biologists believe. What is a gene: 4 letter alphabet known as nucleotide, basic unit of inheritance, sequence of hereditary information of dna (deoxyribonucleic acid, the instructions to tell our body how to change/form through time. Organism: the individual living thing, the unit of life, a form of life composed of mutually interdependent parts that maintain vital processes.
