Document Summary

If possible, try to work on it before o. h. so we can go over difficulties you might have. Answers for the worksheet will be posted online after the second office hour on friday. Fill in the blanks for each sentence based on the characteristics of the animal lineage. All animals are multicellular with no cell walls but with an extensive extracellular matrix. All animals obtain their energy source from other organisms, making them heterotrophs. Most of them also ingest their food instead of absorbing it. Compare the functions of the germ layers in triploblasts and diploblasts. The ectoderm gives rise to the skin and nervous system, the endoderm gives rise to the lining of the digestive tract, and the mesoderm gives rise to muscles, circulatory system and, internal structures. In diploblasts, the muscle cells are much simpler and come from the endoderm instead of the mesoderm.
